In my decades of experience, the only times I’ve seen this situation is when the client is getting more benefit (even unconsciously) from the problem, then they are pain and consequences.
When a client is getting massive payoff from their symptoms, unless they are willing to try some fairly uncomfortable experiments, I have zero chance of inspiring the necessary changes, because the unconscious KNOWS the reason it’s holding onto the symptoms … and it’s fighting the desire to change and heal.
I call this process the “[drive for homeostasis preservation](https://www.quora.com/search?q=homeostasis%20preservation&author=84795924 “www.quora.com”)” and it’s quite a formidable foe when coupled with a highly defiant, controlling or resistant client.
